CD-DmitriShostakovich
This CD features a historic studio recording of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 for piano, solo trumpet, and chamber orchestra, recorded at Mosfilm Studio in 2004.
Written in 1933, the concerto is one of Shostakovich’s most distinctive early works. It combines sharp contrasts, elements of irony, and clear classical forms, with an unusual and important role given to the solo trumpet alongside the piano.
The performance brings together outstanding musicians. Pianist Vladimir Krainev offers a clear, well-balanced interpretation, while trumpeter Vladislav Lavrik precisely shapes the solo trumpet lines. The Festival Chamber Orchestra is conducted by Maxim Shostakovich, whose close connection to his father’s music adds special significance to this recording.
The recording was made by sound engineer Vadim Ivanov, and the CD booklet includes photographs by Alexandra Torgushnikova. This release represents an important document of Shostakovich performance tradition and preserves a valuable moment in recording history.
