Recorded at Mosfilm Studio in Moscow in July 2005, this performance of Shostakovich’s First Piano Concerto brings together pianist Ksenia Bashmet and trumpeter Vladislav Lavrik with the Moscow Soloists under Yuri Bashmet.
Shostakovich gives the trumpet an unusually prominent role, creating an independent solo voice that enters into a vivid dialogue with the piano. Moving between lyricism, irony and brilliant virtuosity, the trumpet becomes an essential part of the concerto’s distinctive character.
